My interest in family history started when I was sweet 16 and my maternal Grandmother showed me a family tree written in 1798 and went back 7 generations, it was wonderful to hold a document of "my" family that went back so far to a very rich and powerful family in Northumberland. Unfortunately although the document is authentic the tree has no dates other than when it was written and at the top of the tree a "brother" was invented to connect us to the rich side, Oh well such is life.....Now four decades later I still have the bug, I need to know more than just names and dates I want to know who these people were, I want to get to know my family.

Dad's side of the family the Wilkins is/was a challenge, he had one brother who died at 6 months, his father had died when I was a child, his mother before I was born. Dad thought he only had one Aunt and one Uncle and had not seen either since he was a child and had no idea where they were, even if they were still alive. When the 1901 census came out I was able to tell dad he had 3 Uncles and 3 Aunts. I have only ever met 3 Wilkins that I am related to, my brother, my father and my grandfather I hope one day to meet another person born a Wilkins that I am related to.
